We have been hit hard in this economy and are now ina recession that has not been seen in many, many years. The affect it has is richest communities to the already poor ones. In the past several communities have had to cut out things tomaintain their budgets and this has included the schools. Today it is even worse with cutbacks on staff and even shutting down schools and consolidating students is happening more than ever. Because of this, schools are using the smallest amount of physical items to offer to their students. Several educators are spending their own money to buy supplies for their students and the parents are suffering withby enormous at the beginning of school. Some ideas will be touched on below on how to fight therising cost of sending your child to school each Fall like going to a store that sell text books and buy text books that are used in addition to purchasing supplies in bulk and splitting them with a friend.
Many AmericansSeveral people have to now budget an enormous amount of cash to buy school supplies for their kids that used to be given to them by the school and the school districts. Because of budget cuts and the struggling economy this is now a reality that people have to face. Many required items add up to more than $100 per student at the start of the school year and are notjust items that they will need but thingssuch as Kleenex and wipes and dry erase markers for the classroom also. What can we do to cut these costs?
Onegreat idea is to start looking for sales throughout the summer and purchasing things you know will be on the list such as paper, folders and pencils. By spreading out the cost it will nothit you so hard all at once at the start of school. Anotheridea is to go to a big warehouse store where you can buy supplies in bulk then splitit with some friends. Purchasing in bulk always savesexpenses. You may not want to take your younger child with you to select many ofthe things because they will see all of the items with their favorite characters on them and want them instead of than the more economic plain colored items. Many parents cave in to theirkids and spend more than if they had just gonealone.
Another great tip is to have a party with all of your friends to share gently used items from yourkids and swap. This can be for backpacks, lunch boxes, clothing, shoes and some notebooks that werebarely used. This way yourkids get something “new” to them but it costs youno money. The greater amount of people you can gettogether for your back to school swap, thegreater result for all. All of these tips can assist you to save on your expenses but still get your child the things that they need for thestart of the school year.
